While my interests are different to those of David Strong (20 June, page 43), I am glad to lend my support to his criticisms of the current unsatisfactory state of “building control” in England and Wales.

I am also concerned that designs of new buildings – including schools and hospitals – are often the poorer as a consequence of a building control body’s involvement – especially if they are from approved inspector firms.
