I am responding to the article “Two members quit safety group to maintain independence” (26 June, page 15) on behalf of the Construction Clients’ Group (CCG)

The plethora of assessment schemes must end and move into a period of mutual recognition. Having such an uncoordinated approach only fosters bureaucracy which none of us want. The article is incorrect to suggest that Safety Schemes In Procurement (SSIP) incorporated a scheme from the CCG; such a scheme has not existed.

We have, however, been actively involved in supporting the development of the SSIP and believe the overall intent and approach is one that is heading in the right direction.
