It was a delight to read Jeff Howell’s article (31 August, Page 30) on the dreaded Home information packs (Hips).

For some years we have had a perfectly efficient and reasonably accurate way of determining the energy efficiency of a building – it is called SAP methodology.

Why on earth the government have introduced this new “Mickey Mouse” method of energy assessment instead of using SAP, heaven only knows. I suspect trying to do the job properly and professionally by using SAP methodology was far too complicated for a politician to understand.

When I started in the industry, having professional qualifications meant something. Now professionals are treated with suspicion. It really is time someone said stop.
