We read with interest the article “Plundered with impunity” (8 August, page 20).

As a small specialist timber door manufacturer, we are committed to providing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody products for clients that are willing to pay.

Larger contractors wish to appear to be green by signing up to the principles at board level to appease shareholders and the environmental lobby, but our experience is that when it comes to the crunch, these policies are half-heartedly implemented. At site level there is little understanding of what FSC chain of custody entails.
