What are construction companies doing to meet the 2019 carbon emissions targets?

The news that property owners face a £500bn bill if they are to meet compulsory targets for reducing carbon emissions by 2019 begs the question: what have these companies been doing since the targets were set three years ago? We should, in theory, be a quarter of the way towards meeting them. What is making it so difficult?

The industry must transform itself to meet the challenges and opportunities of sustainable construction.

Property owners need to introduce new, technology-enabled ways of working that increase collaboration and support at every stage of the construction process and take the lead role in rolling these out. The construction sector contributes around half the UK’s carbon emissions. It must change urgently to address this: not just because budgets are at stake but because it is the right thing to do.
