In your article about the new station over the river at Blackfriars (28 January, page 44), you refer to the role of the PLA in making the use of the river a possibility for moving materials to and from the site.

The Thames is by far the busiest inland waterway in the UK, with over two million tonnes of goods moved annually and over four million passengers using commuter and tourist services.

Balancing the logisitcs needs of a major project with the growing demands of existing freight and passengers services is what we do everyday in the PLA.

The Blackfriars station project has showcased the use of the river for construction logistics in London. With Crossrail and the proposed Thames Tideway Tunnel, this role will increase significantly n the near future.
