We were interested to see the images you published on the front cover (27 February) of the design of York St John University

The wood cladding featured on the exterior of the building, with its characteristic grain clearly in evidence on the pictures attached to the article, suggested Canadian western red cedar. It surprised us therefore to read the accompanying text and find that you had labelled the material as larch. To our surprise, and the architect’s annoyance, we understand that the information you provided was not correct; the wood used was in fact western red cedar.

We do appreciate the mention of wood species in your articles, each having unique properties that contribute to their suitability for particular end-uses, and feel that it would be appropriate to bring this apparent error to the attention of your readers.
