I read with interest your article on the 16 January titled “five green duds”

The nomination of sheep’s wool insulation was based on a DIY method of making this product. This, I would suggest, is not the best way of building a house.

The wool we use at Black Mountain Insulation is cleaned and insect-treated by a specialist company. Brian Mark, in contrast, took raw fleece and tried to treat it himself. This would never work and is, in fact, illegal.

Sheep’s wool insulation is a better insulator than mineral wool. It also controls condensation and does not deteriorate when moisture is present. Wool absorbs harmful gases, is biodegradable and requires very low energy for its manufacture.

This natural insulation is more high-tech than most people think and has a higher performance than many man-made products – provided it is manufactured correctly!
