We read with interest your article (28 August, page 10) concerning the appointment of Turner & Townsend for the Hoe Valley scheme in Woking

We wish to correct the impression given that the tendered price was the sole basis of selection.

The evaluation process used was part of the Buying Solutions/IESE framework and that price was weighted to only contribute 30% of the total evaluation score. Therefore, although price did play a part, 70% of the score was based on quality criteria, in particular the merits of the proposal and the experience and capabilities of the team.

Mark Rolt, strategic director, Woking council; Michael Lee, framework manager, IESE; John McGowan, project management director, Turner & Townsend
