Once again, the movers and shakers of the UK construction industry gathered at the Houses of Parliament for Building’s annual terrace reception

Over 100 MPs and industry grandees, including the chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority Sir John Armitt and Shard project manager Bernard Ainsworth, attended Building’s annual summer reception at the Houses of Parliament last Thursday.

Guests heard from speakers including Lord O’Neill, chairman of the Strategic Forum for Construction, and Nick Raynsford, former construction minister.

Lord O’Neill called on the industry to focus on greater collaboration to weather the economic downturn. He also urged the government to use the industry to return growth
to the economy.

The event was themed around the London Olympics and Building’s London 2012 campaign to promote the UK construction industry’s feat in delivering the Games
venues on time and on budget.

Other guests included former home secretary and Building columnist David Blunkett, and the founder of Make architects Ken Shuttleworth, and Atkins UK chief executive David Tonkin

In her first speech as the editor of Building Sarah Richardson said that the magazine would continue to “showcase the fantastic achievements of firms on the Olympic project, so that they have the best chance to capitalise on their success, both at home and abroad”.
