There is much to be welcomed in the new report from the Committee on Climate Change about how to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

But it is wrong to suggest that nuclear power has any role to play.

When environmental and hidden costs are factored in, nuclear power is one of the most expensive ways of generating electricity. There are more than enough alternatives that are cheaper, quicker to build and altogether more attractive. Several reports show how it is possible to decarbonise the economy without using nuclear power (see www.mng.org.uk/gh/scenarios.htm).
