Is it just me who is appalled by the rank hypocrisy shown by Bill Dunster ("Dunster set to build 1000 eco homes a year in London", 19 May, page 13)?

In the effort to keep costs down, products will be sourced from China - a country well known for its contribution to global warming and its exemption from the requirements of the Kyoto protocol. In addition, those products will have to be shipped halfway round the world on highly polluting ships.

I seem to remember that when choosing products for the BedZed project, the distance from the manufacturing site to the construction site was a factor in the decision-making process to ensure that the materials chosen had low embodied energy and low embodied carbon.

Still, good to see that principles do have a price.
