In the article “Express elevation” (23 June) it is suggested that British Land and Bovis Lend Lease are setting a precedent for new buildings in the UK by using double-deck lifts.

The NatWest tower included double-deck lifts in the late 1970s and our design for the post-bomb refurbishment in the early 1990s retained them and optimised their performance.

The new rush for the skies can certainly benefit from the technology, but new it isn’t.
