The Green Guide can be bought online at www.blackwell-science.com

The guide contains almost 300 specifications commonly used in all types of buildings.

It has profiles containing the latest available industry data and information on the relative environmental performance of various materials and components.

The book contains environmental rankings based on life cycle assessment studies of environmental impacts. The rankings are underpinned with extensive data but have been simplified to make meaningful comparisons possible.

Materials and components are presented in an as-built form and are environmentally evaluated against a number of criteria including climate change, fossil fuel depletion, ozone depletion, waste disposal, and human toxicity.

The criteria have been carefully selected to allow specifiers to select materials on the basis of personal preference.

They are compared on a like-for-like basis for every square metre of construction. Important variables such as the mass of a material required to fulfil a particular function are taken into account.

Materials and components have been arranged on an elemental basis so the reader can compare and select from comparable systems or materials. The handbook contains a large catalogue of building products.
