The war for talent that is being fought across the professional services sector has seen top City law firm CMS Cameron McKenna introducing a concierge service for its staff to help take the hassle out of their typically long working days.
The service, run by US firm Ceridian, includes help with family and leisure events, dry-cleaning pick-up and delivery – even overseeing visits from tradesmen to fix an employee's washing machine or boiler.
'We asked what was important for people in the City where 9am-5pm is not a feature of their lives,' said human resources director John Renz. 'We found that people have a problem managing the operational things. If you spend all your time working in a high-paid job and then when you are at home you spend all your time doing these kind of jobs, what's the point?'
The trend for concierge-style services is becoming increasingly popular, particularly among professional and new economy workplaces, which tend to employ a high proportion of young single people.
