In what is being described as part of a “major investment programme for the business”, manned security contractor First Security (Guards) has unveiled plans to open a new training facility – Caledonia House – for its 2,000 London-based officers.
Situated close by the company’s existing headquarters in EC1, the training centre in Pentonville Road will offer induction courses as well as tuition in customer care, first aid and supervisory skills.

The company is quick to point out that specific training for each individual contract will still be administered on site, but the new offices will also provide sector-specific training (covering vital areas such as retail security and health and safety) – as well as advanced training in the art of conflict resolution.

“This move signals our commitment to providing ‘best-in-class’ training for our officers, which allows them to display the very best skills on site for end users,” said First Security’s managing director Jonathan Levine.

The announcement follows last September’s launch of a mobile patrol and keyholding service (News, Security Management Today, September 2001, p7).
