Cut down waste paper Use both sides of the paper when photocopying. Offices waste tonnes of paper every day, so send emails whenever possible and use scrap paper for notes. Reuse envelopes – don't be proud!

Charity begins in the office Give surplus old furniture and equipment to charity. Old monitors, chairs and tables can find welcome homes at charities. If not, then check the internet or phone directories for commercial recycling companies.

Recycle wherever possible Send toner cartridges back to the manufacturer for refilling. A surprising number of industrial containers can be reused, if only someone takes the time to post them. Request that deliveries be shipped in reusable or returnable packages.

Ditch the plastic cups Buy reusable coffee mugs and drink containers instead. By the end of the day, most offices are strewn with plastic and polystyrene cups. Brighten up your desk by bringing a favourite glass or mug from home.

Cut down waste paper Make recycling bins accessible, and have lots of them. People tend to use the bins that are closest to hand. Make sure recycling bins are clearly visible.
