EcoPower combined heat and power unit
Central Heating Spares is launching the Ecopower combined heat and power system. A CHP unit generates electricity and produces usable hot water as a by-product, making it a highly energy-efficient and cost-effective technology. The Ecopower unit provides an electrical output of 2-4.7 kW and a thermal output of 6-12 kW and stands only 1080 mm high. CHP is usually associated with heavy industry or very large institutions, but the Ecopower unit is suitable for applications requiring a smaller output, such as hotels, schools, light industry and even the domestic sector.

The unit boasts strong green credentials as it is claimed to produce only 240 grams of CO2 per kilowatt hour of power produced, 75% lower than the UK average. It is claimed to be easy to install and has a service interval of 4000 hours. The manufacturer says it can run for 40 000 hours before a major overhaul is required. The unit is designed to run on both natural gas and propane and currently runs in parallel to the National Grid, although stand-alone operation is planned.
