US President Barack Obama has signed an executive order setting tight sustainability goals for federal agencies

They are required to set a 2020 greenhouse gas emissions reduction target in 90 days. They must also increase energy efficiency, reduce fleet vehicle fuel use by 30% and improve water efficiency by 26%. Federal government accounts for almost 500,000 buildings across the US, operates over 600,000 vehicles and buys $500bn a year in goods and services.
