Energy minister, Brian Wilson, has announced a £3 million large-scale solar building trial and invited developers to bid for a share of the money.
It is hoped the initiative will lead to the building of 12-15 large sun-powered buildings across the UK.

Mr Wilson says: "The government's solar housing and large-scale building trials are the start of a long-term strategy. I want to see tens of thousands of roofs covered by solar panels over the next ten years.

"Everyday public buildings such as schools and hospitals will benefit from this clean energy. If a green revolution is to take place then solar energy must move from high-tech business parks to everyday lives."

The money awarded to each project will be set to provide approximately 80% of the average installation costs. It will cover installations larger than 20 kWp on non-domestic buildings.
