Tory MP Peter Ainsworth’s Green Energy Bill, featured in last month’s BSD, has passed its second reading in Parliament

Ainsworth is seeking to remove the need for planning permission for renewables installations for domestic premises and to exempt homes with such installations from council tax increases. Ainsworth described the outcome of the reading as a “victory for common sense”. He said he and DECC minister Mike O’Brien had had several meetings on the bill, but hinted that the government was reluctant to accept the council tax exemption. The bill now moves to committee stage.
