Multi-disciplinary engineering practice, John Allen Consulting (JAC) took its place at the BBC's Tomorrow's World Road Show at the end of July.
In the engineering section of the show, the emphasis was on attracting new blood to the industry.

JAC representative at the show Kevin Leach said: "We're here to try to attract more young people into engineering. We don't think that the institutions themselves are doing enough so we thought we'd come and do it ourselves. Most people think that an engineer is someone who turns up to fix their washing machine but we're trying to show them just how important engineers are."

JAC also ran a competition over the course of the show, the winner of which will be sponsored by the consultancy to go on to university to study engineering at degree level. Leach said: "A lot of young people go to university, get their engineering degrees, then go into jobs in banking. They aren't aware of the opportunities out there. The response here has been good."
