A 300-home development, which will provide affordable housing for first-time buyers, was announced by mayor of London Ken Livingstone and the London Development Agency on Tuesday.
The 1.35 ha Gallions Approach site in the Royal Docks, east London, is the first to benefit from a deal with regeneration agency English Partnerships by which the government does not have to pay land costs. This makes the properties a third cheaper to build.
