JDP has won this award for its significant research and development work, culminating in the design and installation of an air cycle environmentally friendly machine which heats and cools buildings. The innovative aspect of the system is that air is used as the working fluid, as opposed to halogenated carbon.
The concept of using air as a refrigerant is not new technology, as it has been used on board ships and by food processing companies since the turn of the last century. But this is the first time that it has been used in a building services environment.
The basic idea was to use existing air cycle technology and adapt it to be able to heat and cool buildings, while at the same time retaining water as the heating and cooling medium.
The system is reliable, easy to install and commission, has long routine maintenance intervals, and is environmentally friendly.
The economical as well as the environmental benefits of this innovation could have a significant impact on the industry
And the runners up....
Crane Fluid Systems
The Crane Procontrol valve is a combination of valves presented in a modular package providing a number of functions for hvac applications. The solution has many advantages, including predictable performance, a more compact product, and reduced installation time.
Roof-Pro
The Roof-Pro systems support services on flat roofs without penetrating the waterproofing membrane. Future maintenance of the roof membrane can be carried out without decommissioning services. Judges describe the system as "a simple solution to an old industry wide problem".
