Frenzy of last minute bids ends in signed book going for £20 above normal retail price
A glut of last-minute bids pushed the price of a new book on JCT contracts to 50% above its normal retail price. The winning bidder, kenayada23, put up £59 for the 'JCT 2005 What's New?' book.
It follows an auction launched by Cyril Sweett, whose legal expert James Davison penned the unputdownable bestseller. This auction was the result of a late-night debate after the recent launch of this book between Andrew Hemsley, the managing director of Cyril Sweett's Consulting team and Davison.
Andrew reckoned that the book is well under-priced and that one way to increase the price would be to sell copies signed by the author. James, being a shy and retiring chap, thought there would be no additional value from this. A £5 bet rested on whether a signed copy is worth more than the cover price. So Andrew is now quids in.
All proceeds of this sale (and Cyril Sweett will add a bit on top as well) will be donated to their nominated charity: CHASE - Hospice Care for Children.
