Reported car crimes in Castleford have dropped by 50% thanks to a JVC CCTV installation
The Yorkshire town of Castleford has traditionally been something of a 'hot spot' when it comes to car crime. "Many of our car parks have not been safe places to be at all," said Darren Pollington (CCTV supervisor for the Wakefield Borough), "and we felt that additional CCTV might help eradicate the problem of car crime and vandalism."

Although no official figures have been made available as yet, it's thought that car crime in Castleford has been cut by 50% in six months – largely thanks to a JVC-led CCTV system.

Castleford is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wakefield. More than 320,000 people live in and around the northern city. The Wakefield satellite towns and villages of Castleford, Hemsworth and South Emsall are already covered by its CCTV system, with Pontefract 'going live' next year.

For their part, JVC cameras have been installed in the Wakefield system since its inception. Quadrant in Nottingham has used TK-C1380s in the main system along with TIS Mansfield, who installed the latest phase of the operation in central Castleford.

All camera image information is collected locally from each camera and fed via fibre optics back to the central Control Room at Wakefield. The police are now beginning to succeed with prosecutions thanks to the clarity of the images being produced.
