When the time came for pharmaceuticals research concern Pharmacia to upgrade security systems at its Milton Keynes hq, facilities manager Catherine Halstead recognised that the previous card-based access system was obsolete. Faults occurred on a regular basis, while the system didn’t provide total protection.

Following several system reviews, Pharmacia specified a new Lenel solution, installing the latter’s OnGuard 32ES access control systems. Pharmacia then decided to integrate digital video capabilities on site, add an integrated Photo ID management system and upgrade the access control solution to a mid-range package.

Vision Security completed this next phase, upgrading OnGuard with CCTV, adding Lenel’s integrated OnGuard ID CredentialCentre system and integrating that with third party turnstiles, perimeter protection systems and external barriers.

The deployment of this integrated security solution now allows complete control and monitoring of the facility. For example, the use of an integrated access control and digital CCTV system means that when an alarm occurs, a video clip is attached to that alarm. That clip is presented to the monitoring officer in real time.
