And the winner is...
Gateshead Millennium Bridge
Jonathan Speirs & Associates achieved a stunning lighting effect, to match the drama of the world's first tilting bridge. Working closely with the design team, the essence of the lighting concept was simplicity: to reinforce the form and structure of the bridge; to provide a safe environment; and to create a powerful night time icon for Gateshead and Tyneside.
The aim of lighting consultant Speirs & Major was to retain a sense of danger and drama of the original industrial plant, with it's associated darkness. Any additional lighting was resolved to emulate the low red glow of the night-time image from when Magna was alive. Hoare Lea’s London Office
Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers has used its offices to demonstrate a new approach to office lighting. With an innovative approach to office lighting levels, and use of task lighting appropriate to each department's needs, Hoare Lea shows that office lighting can be innovative and effective. Canterbury Castle
Urban Projects had to find a fine balance of solutions for contradicting problems brought forward by the client, while maintaining the original design concept. Lighting effects are achieved through small and controllable light sources, creating a subtle and modelled effect. Four Brindley Place
This was the largest office fitout in Birmingham in 2001. SVM Group was required by the client to retain existing, fairly new lighting equipment where appropriate. The client also expressed concern about lighting efficiency. With a series of lighting techniques, SVM Group created a functioning office, with imaginative effects.

Client and public feedback has been equally excellent. Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council is "delighted" and is particularly pleased with the arch lighting as it projects an effective visual impression at night creating the iconic vision desired for the project.
The lighting of this project has helped to create a new icon for the region
