More than half of social housing tenants are satisfied with their landlord, according to the government’s annual Survey of English Housing.
In 2000/01, 64% of council tenants and 76% of housing association tenants were very or fairly satisfied with the service they received.

When asked what aspects of their local area they would like to see improved, 38% mentioned opportunities and facilities for children and young people, 32% mentioned the level of crime and vandalism and 31% said local amenities, parks and leisure facilities.

In 2000/01, 20% of households rented their homes from the social sector. Council tenancies fell and housing association tenancies rose.
