Morgan Professional Services (MPS) has been appointed to provide the civil, structural, and mechanical and electrical engineering design for the £187 million Wigan Life Centre.

The PFI scheme will create a state-of-the-art leisure, health, learning and information complex. MPS has been briefed to minimise CO2 emissions and whole-life operational costs. The plans feature a centralised combined heat and power plant to heat the complex which typically achieves a 35% reduction in energy use.

Morgan Ashurst will design and construct the facilities which will be built on the site of the town’s existing municipal buildings and swimming pool. Hochtief Facility Management UK will manage the complex once it is open. Morgan Ashurst has appointed LCE Architects and AStudio Architects to provide architectural design for the facilities.

The project is due for completion in December 2011.
