The Formation Architect associate director on being a geek, making bread and listening to 1970s prog rock

Kees van der Sande

What is your favourite website?

Dezeen, for architecture and design news and projects which are not reported in the main UK publications, and Geektyrant, because at heart I’m still a geek.

Then there’s Wally Boats – because one day…

What is your worst digital habit?

Checking email in meetings.

iPhone/Blackberry/Android. Which side are you on?

iPhone every time

Are you into social networking? (Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook etc)

Yes. We just won our first job this week through a LinkedIn connection. Twitter is fun for gossip but I don’t tweet as most of my projects at Formation Architects are very confidential. I don’t use Facebook any more.

Who do you recommend to follow on Twitter?

Ian Martin – just for the swearing, Tim Harford, the undercover economist to understand how we got into this financial mess, and Patrick Baty, for the interesting articles he posts on historic projects.

What is your favourite app?

IMDB (internet movie data base) and Flipboard

What is your preferred means of communication? (eg. Email, phone, face to face, text etc)

Face to face and telephone. I find people send emails just for the sake of writing something and covering their backside.

What did you last buy online?

A breadmaker

PC or Mac?

PC.

Guilty pleasures: Most played tunes from iTunes/Spotify?

I want your love by Chic, Sketch for Summer by The Durutti Column, Winning a battle, losing a war by Kings of Convenience, Computer Love by Kraftwerk, and too much progressive rock from the 1970’s.
