Rachel Ivers is the new behavioural change manager at Mansell
How did you get into construction?
This is my first job in construction. I made the move because I was impressed that Mansell had the foresight to hire someone dedicated to behavioural safety rather than using external consultants.
Biggest challenge the new role presents?
Getting to grips with construction projects, equipment and language.
The main challenge is harnessing the enthusiasm everyone seems to have for behavioural safety – previously, in consulting, the challenge was the reverse.
Greatest influence in your professional life?
Learning from some of today’s great leaders about how to engage others, plus the support and enthusiasm I get from home.
Worst day at work?
Getting up at a ridiculous hour the morning after the London Marathon and boarding a plane to Amsterdam to deliver a workshop.
Your biggest professional achievement?
Seeing through to completion IPR’s behavioural safety programme ‘Fresh Eyes’ after 12 months of development and training.
Best advice you’ve received?
Live life to the full, make use of your skills, don’t worry who gets the credit.
Favourite building?
The dome on Brunelleschi‘s Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, Italy. It’s breathtaking.
How do you unwind?
Going for a run and catching up over supper and a glass of wine with my husband (when I’m not travelling).
Would you recommend construction to friends and families?
Yes. The people are welcoming and friendly.
And one from the leftfield – what would you like to change most about your behaviour?
To practice what I preach more of the time… and saying yes when sometimes the answer should be no.
