Work has started on the new National Galleries of Scotland Special Reserve Collection Store in Edinburgh.
The building will maintain storage conditions without mechanical cooling. Extensive modelling work by the services engineers Oscar Faber showed that by adopting a 'floating' control temperature for the storage areas, together with increased thickness of wall insulation, the precise storage condition criteria could be satisfied without the need for mechanical cooling. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Architect for the project is BDP.
