Kirkstall scheme to be built at former industrial complex

A deal to build the first phase of a £100m-plus housing and commercial scheme in Leeds has been put up for grabs.

The Kirkstall Road job will initially provide 623 homes and associated commercial space on a former Yorkshire Chemicals site set in the Kirkstall area of the city.

Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, was given planning for the scheme earlier this year.

Work on the first phase is due to start next May

The Broadway Malyan-designed masterplan includes a new riverside park and river crossing, as well as a range of commercial areas, including new cafes, a food hall, independent shops and public spaces.

A subsequent phase of the Latimer scheme could see 814 additional housing units built.

The £108m contract for the first phase runs from May 2023 to October 2025 and firms have until 14 July to bid.

The 13-acre scheme is one of a number within the Kirkstall Corridor, which runs along the city’s riverside. Manchester developer Glenbrook recently submitted detailed plans for its own 618-apartment scheme on a nearby corridor plot.
