Structure designed by White Arkietkter in partnership with Sprunt is transported along the Thames Estuary and lifted onto the pier

A 350m2 cultural centre commissioned by Southend council and designed by Scandinavian practice White Arkitekter, working in partnership with London-based architects Sprunt, was craned onto Southend Pier this week. Weighing 170 tonnes, the structure was transported in one piece from Tilbury Docks, where it was fabricated off-site. It was transported by barge along the Thames Estuary and lifted onto the pier head at high tide using a 400-tonne marine sheer leg crane.
