South Wales site could become visitors centre

A former steel works could get a new lease of life as a visitors centre for the south Wales valleys.

A planning applications has been submitted to convert the office building on the site in Blaenau Gwent.

The restoration of the Grade II listed building is part of a £300m project to restore the 200 acre site, rebranded as The Works Ebbw Vale.

The plans include creating a genealogy and family history centre within the visitors centre and potentially re-housing the Gwent record office. It is a joint venture between Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly government. Work has already begun on the project with the restoration of the roof.
