Work has begun on the first phase of the University of Bradford's £11m project to build an atrium and revamp its Richmond Building.

The four-storey atrium is planned to become the focal point of the campus, housing student services, catering and IT facilities. Inside, the Richmond Building's facade will be opened up to create balconies overlooking the new foyer. It will be clad in ETFE, the near-transparent material used on the Eden Project in Cornwall. The architect was Saltaire-based practice Rance Booth & Smith.
