Plans for a sports complex to regenerate Aberdeen’s shoreline revealed.

Plans for a new £60m sports centre to house Aberdeen FC have been revealed, and will be considered by the city council for the first time next week. The plans include a 20,000-seat replacement for the club’s Pittodrie stadium, a sports complex, community facilities and 500 new homes, all to be built on the sea-front.

If approved, work on the scheme could begin by 2007. The club would have to sell off Pittodrie to raise funds for the project; although it would be the main shareholder in the new complex, there would also be a high level of community use.

On Wednesday next week councillors will be asked to agree to further work being done on the plans.
