Government seeks consultant to carry out feasibility study and initial designs
Abu Dhabi has invited tenders for a 131km metro line. The government's transport department is looking for a consultant to undertake the feasibility study for the scheme, initial designs and the schedule of works.
The contract will be awarded in the third quarter of 2009. The first phase, the feasibility study, is expected to take 18 months.
The metro line will be supported by a planned network of buses and trams, under a 20-year transport plan for Abu Dhabi.
The transport network will link the city of Abu Dhabi with the new communities being planned, including Al Raha Beach, Masdar and Saadiyat and Yas Islands, as well as with the Dubai metro.
The tram network will open in 2015 and the metro in 2020.
