Will Alsop's Public Arts Centre has been landed be a massive bill to repair a smashed window

The troubled Public Arts Centre in Sandwell has been hit by a £40,000 bill to repair a smashed window.

It emerged this week that work to replace the pane of glass, which was smashed by vandals, involves pulling down a nearby wall.

The design fault is the latest in a series of problems to hit the unfinished arts centre, which was designed by Will Alsop.

In March, construction work was halted and the centre went into administration after the original £32m budget rocketed to £55m.

Work began on the centre, which was meant to be a venue for theatre, music and dance, in 2003 as part of the £500m regeneration of West Bromwich.
