Acquisition of Smith Williams Consultants is part of expansion strategy in the earth and environmental business

Amec has acquired the assets of US environmental and geotechnical mining consultant Smith Williams Consultants from its owner-managers for £3.1m in cash.

Smith Williams provides consulting services to the US mining sector. The firm has a staff of 36 and is based in Denver, Colorado, with a satellite office in Elko, Nevada.

The acquisition is in line with international engineer and project manager Amec’s strategy of expansion, in both geographic and capacity terms, in the earth and environmental business.

Amec’s earth and environmental division operates from 130 offices worldwide, providing a range of environmental, geotechnical, water resources, infrastructure, materials testing, and project management services. The firm’s earth and environmental, natural resources, and power and process businesses together employ 20,000 people in more than 30 countries.
