Support services group Amec has expanded its nuclear business by winning a £245m contract in Canada.

It has been appointed by Bruce Power, a nuclear power generator, to manage the restart of two reactors in Ontario.

The contract is the first major contract for Amec’s nuclear business, which was created in July after the acquisition of UK nuclear services company NNC Holdings.

Sir Peter Mason, the chief executive of Amec, said that the contract reflected the future direction of the company.

He said: “We expect to see a wave of investment as governments and companies worldwide start to look afresh at nuclear power.”

The work is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
