CABE has come out in support of architect HOK’s revised planning application for the 905-bed Royal London Hospital redevelopment in east London, after it slated the earlier design.

CABE has praised the creation of what it calls “a significant new civic space” between the front blocks and the proposed blocks, though it still finds one of the smaller blocks awkward and fussy. It has asked the government to make available the neighbouring former post office site, as this could improve the design and the phasing of construction by PFI contractor Skanska Innisfree.
