Consultant’s role on Gold Line will be worth £80m over two years

Doha

Atkins has won the lead design role on a £2.5bn metro line in Doha, Qatar.

The consultant said the role on the planned Doha Gold Line will be worth around £80m to the firm over the next two years.

The line involves construction of a 32km tunnel with six boring machines and delivery of 13 underground stations.

Atkins was appointed by the Gold Line consortium of contractors – Greece-based Aktor, Turkey-based Yapi Merkezi and STFA, India-based Larsen & Toubro and Qatar-based Al Jaber Engineering.

In a trading statement for the period from 1 April to date, Atkins said it was trading in line with expectations, “despite ongoing currency headwinds” due to the strengthening pound relative to overseas currencies.
