Rail contractor wins deals in Australia and Singapore.

Balfour Beatty has won three new rail contracts – one in Australia, one in Singapore, and one in the UK – worth a total of £100m.

The largest of the three deals is with the Australian Rail Track Corporation Limited, to upgrade 700km of the Sydney-Brisbane link on the east coast. The work, which includes track improvements and bridge strengthening, will be carried out as part of a joint venture over the next three years. In Singapore, Balfour Beatty has been contracted to design and build an extension to the mass rapid transit system, scheduled for completion in 2009.

The third contract is for the provision of road rail plant to Network rail on the Wessex, Great Eastern and West Anglian & North London lines.

Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said: “These new contracts further demonstrate Balfour Beatty's strong international position and reputation in fixed rail infrastructure markets following the recent award of a major new project for the electrification of the West Coast Main Line in the UK.”
