Kay Slade joined firm originally as managing counsel

Balfour Beatty has appointed a former solicitor as the managing director of its UK regional civils business.

Kay Slade will take over from Mark Arrandale, who has been serving as interim managing director of the division since last autumn, next month. The firm said Arrandale will return to his post of finance director next month.

Slade joined Balfour four years ago as managing counsel from Costain where she spent six years in legal and corporate roles.

She is currently area director for the company’s UK regional civils business. She said: “Having joined Balfour Beatty as managing counsel four years ago, progressing to managing director reflects both the breadth of opportunity available and the company’s strong commitment to developing talent and supporting career growth.”

The business Slade is taking over is part of the wider UK construction division which in 2024 had a revenue of just over £3bn. Balfour Beatty is due to release its 2025 numbers on 11 March.
