Average monthly cash balance tops £1.5bn in first quarter
Balfour Beatty’s average monthly net cash balance over the first three months of the year was over £1.5bn, the firm said in an update this morning.
The country’s biggest contractor said the average closing balance over the period was £1.55bn, up from £1.2bn for the same period last time.
The company said it expects average net cash for 2026 to be between £1.2bn and £1.5bn.

Balfour said trading in the year to date “had performed well” with several wins in the UK transport and energy markets as well as a number of jobs in the US buildings sector including a $270m housing scheme at the Fort Carson US army base in Colorado,
“Positive momentum across Balfour Beatty’s key markets has continued into 2026, with demand remaining strong,” it added.
The firm will release its interim results on 12 August.
Meanwhile, in a trading update this morning Royal Bam said profitability at its UK construction business “continued to improve” in the first quarter.
The Dutch contractor, which is due to release its interim results at the end of July, said its UK civils business had continued to “sustain its strong performance” in the period.
