Contractor was last on list 17 years ago
Balfour Beatty is joining the FTSE 100 list of the country’s biggest quoted firms.
The change will happen this Thursday and will see the country’s biggest contractor move from the FTSE 250 to the premier list for the first time in 17 years.
Balfour is moving up because FTSE 100 firm, asset manager Schroders, is being bought by investor Pantheon LLC for £9.9bn – meaning Schroders is deleted from the list.

Balfour Beatty, which has a market cap of £4.45bn, was last on the FTSE 100 list in 2009 where it stayed for nine months before dropping out that September.
Other current FTSE 100 firms include developers British Land and Land Securities and housebuilder Barratt Redrow.
