The contract is with Connect Roads, Balfour Beatty’s specialist PFI road and street lighting arm, and works will be carried out by Balfour Beatty Power Networks.

The first five years of the contract will see 20,100 lighting columns and 3,200 illuminated signs replaced, together with ongoing maintenance of 27,600 columns and 3,200 signs and bollards.

Commenting on the contract, Balfour Beatty chief executive Ian Tyler said: “We look forward to working with Derby City Council on a programme which will help improve road safety, reduce crime and enhance the local environment.”

The win marks Balfour Beatty’s third street-lighting contract, with others in Sunderland and South Tyneside.
