Anniesland College is officially opened by Scotland’s first minister

BDP has unveiled its £51m redevelopment of Anniesland College in the West End of Glasgow.

The further education college, which was designed according to low and passive energy principles, has 17,400 m2 of learning space over five floors.

The project was completed over three phases which led to extensive enabling works, careful strategic design at campus level and an overall construction programme that extended from late 2007 until 2010.

The development was part funded by the Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council, providing Anniesland College with £45.1m for the new building.

First minister Alex Salmond officially opened the college. He said: “The innovative building will enhance student’s educational experience, as well as providing a valuable resource for the community to use”.

The project team included:

  • Hulley & Kirkwood Consulting Engineers
  • Structural/Civil Engineers AECOM
  • Main Contractor BAM
  • Mechanical Subcontractor Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Ltd
  • Electrical Subcontractor Forth Electrical Services
